Nirmal Pandey’s sudden death shocks Mumbai Film Industry

18thFebruary 2010 witnessed a great loss to Indian Film Industry by the sudden demise of veteran actor Nirmal Pandey. He died on the way to the hospital due to heart attack in Holy Spirit hospital in Andheri, Mumbai. A versatile and multitalented actor, he earned his fame as Vikram Mallah in Shekhar Kapoor’s film “Bandit Queen”.

Being a product of National School Drama, he started his career at the age of 13 as a theatre artist. Despite of working with Bollywood, his first love was always theatre. Being a theatre artist and actor, he shared an extremely prestigious award with Sonali Kulkarni for Best Actress in 1997 France’s Valenciennes Film Festival for his transvestite portrayal in Amol Palekar’s Daayra (1996).

In spite of being a good actor, he was also a versatile singer. He came with a music album named ‘Jazba’. He also directed a Hindi play, named Andhayug, written by Dharamveer Bharti.

He will be remembered for his great job in movies like Bandit Queen,Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi, Daayra, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya  Train To Pakistan etc.His last movie will be “Lahore” which is going to be released on 19th March. Associated with London theatre group “Tara”, he has worked in more than 125 plays.

The last release of an actor, singer, and director, Nirmal Pandey was the Telugu film, ‘Kedi’. At the tender age of 48, he left this world and left his actress wife Archana and two kids behind.
