Rakta Charitra (Part I) Movie Review

Yes, Part I. The movie has 2 parts. I am not sure if everyone knows this or not. In fact I came to know about it only after watching the movie. Part II is going to be released on Nov. 19th 2010. And yea, I am really looking forward to the part II too.

So, let’s talk about the movie.

The story is set in a small village called Anand Pur located somewhere in  South of India. The movie shows how Pratap Ravi (Vivek Oberoi) takes revenge of his father and brother’s death from the top upper caste political goons and how he fulfills his father’s dream of becoming a leader for the lower caste people. But to reach that level, Pratap Rai has to go through lot of bloodshed. Infact, I should say, it was more like a slaughterhouse.

I am not big fan of Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) movies, yes, there were few exceptions but majority of his movies have never managed to get into my head. But what I have constantly noticed is, RGV is very good at the movies with the political shadows. And this was not an exception. RGV knows whom to pick and how to make them look good in front of the camera.

What I loved in the movie was, the characterization of each of the actors, be it anyone in positive role or in the negative one. All the main characters ended up leaving their effect on you. Take example of the character, Bukka Reddy (Abhimanyu Singh), a very strong negative character. The character actually terrorizes you when he runs his slaughterhouse. Really brilliant acting by Abhimanyu Singh. This guy deserves an award for his role. Another example of the character is obviously of Pratap Ravi (Vivek Oberoi), you actually, feel the pain of this guy and you also want this guy to take revenge the death of his father and brother. Vivek Oberoi, so far he was good only in the movie, Company.. and this one adds another good movie in his kitty.

Shatrugan Sinha had a very limited role in the part I but it left an impact on you. But I am sure, he will have lot more in the part II.

Yes, the movie has some weak points too, specially some characters vanishing in the middle, some bad editing towards the start of the movie. (e.g.  When Pratap Ravi returns to his village after his father’s death but it was never clear how his Mother and sister in law were moved back to the city he was living in, there were couple of more scenes like this which were not edited properly)

The movie reminded me Kill Bill I where you literally see the blood everywhere, though imagine something like that in real life would be very hard but Yes, it does end up creating impact on  your mind.

I personally love the action movies, so, for me, this movie was superb but this movie might not be suitable for everyone. Specially among the female audience. I would rate this movie

Rating: ★★★½☆

. Again, this is not meant for everyone, high chances that you might not like the movie.
