Anjaana Anjaani Movie Review

Ranbir Kapoor, the hottest young actor around.. and this guy has managed to attract quite a few eyeballs. So, like his any other movies, this movie also had the high hopes, specially amongst the teenagers. I went in for 3.10 PM show, which started miserably late.. the show was 60-70% full, I guess, not a bad for a Friday afternoon show.

So, what’s the movie about? Well, Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) a partner in a stock broking company, managed to put the whole company under the debt of USD 12 million. So, after this mess, Akash decided to commit suicide, so he can runaway from all these problems. Kiara (Priyanka Chopra), a depressed, heartbroken girl, also tries to commit suicide, again, for the same reason.. running away from the problems.

So, both these guys, bump up on a bridge, both try to commit suicide but both fail badly, they landup being in the same hospital and again they bump up while running away from the hospital. They even try to commit suicide few more times but no luck out there. So,, finally, they decide on committing the suicide after 20 days and fulfill their wishes in those 20 days.

In this process, they get to know each other and they end up falling in love with each other.. Yeah, I know, the rest of the things are pretty much predictable but I am not gonna spill the beans here. Go watch the movie 😀

Oh yes, there is absolutely nothing original in the movie. It looks like a mash up of many movies. For e.g. fulfilling their wishes in 20 days is kind of inspired from the movie The Bucket List and you find many other instances which are related to some or other movies. (Not exactly the copy but you will surely feel that, we have seen all this somewhere)

But, I am not trying to say that, the movie was bad. Yes, the movie was good but nothing great, nothing special. It’s one of those movies, which you feel like watching over the weekend with your friends or girlfriend. Watch it once and forget it. It’s definitely not like adding to your DVD collection.

I really liked the storytelling, the way two characters were explored was great. But somewhere down the line, I felt, some kind of injustice to Akash’s character. The guy runs away with making his partners in huge debt and he is shown absolutely careless about the whole thing. Instead of working out on clearing out the debt, he prefers to enjoy those 20 days and on the last day, says sorry to his friends / partners. Come’on, this is not a joke, those guys sold their property, offices to re-pay the debt and this guy is enjoying.

Apart from this, the movie was pretty good. Loved the music, fantastic songs. The locals were shot very nicely.

On the acting front, Ranbir and Priyanka were great. They both do not need any acting lessons. The character I most hated was, wooden face, Zayed Khan. I really thank the director for not giving him much room for the acting.

So, overall, the movie was good, like I said earlier, nothing great, nothing new. I would rate this movie:

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Worth watching it once in the theater but definitely not a 4 star material like some of the other guys have reviewed.
