Woman mowed down by actor Sohail Khan’s car

A 70-year-old woman was allegedly mowed down to death near St. Andrew’s Church near Bandra on Sunday by a car that belonged to Bollywood actor Sohail Khan. Mumbai Police DCP Pratap Dighavkar said the car was registered in the name of Arbaaz Khan, but Sohail was using it.

The police have denied reports that Sohail was present in the car at the time of the accident that took place at 10.30 pm on Sunday. Eyewitnesses said that the woman used to sit at the spot daily.

Meanwhile, the car’s driver has been taken into custody. DCP Dighavkar said that the driver immediately surrendered the SUV after the accident. An alcohol test conducted on him returned negative. Dighavkar said the police was now awaiting a chemical analysis report about the presence of alcohol in his system.

There has been no statements from the actor yet. However, the actor’s father and eminent father Salim Khan said, “It was most unfortunate, the woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police.”

He claimed that the woman, apparently frail, was not “crushed” as claimed in some quarters, but fell near the vehicle. She was reportedly taken to Bhabha hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Salim Khan castigated the media saying that instead of finding out the whereabouts of the poor woman and her family or survivors, the focus was more on his celebrity family – whether they were inside the vehicle and who owned the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence against driver Dhananjay Pimpale. He will be presented before a local court later on Monday.
