Sanjay Dutt to Play Bad Man in Agneepath Remake

After a fall-out from Rishi Kapoor, now Sanjay Dutt has stepped into his shoes.  The actor has been approached to play the main villain in the remake of Agneepath. Practically, Sanjay Dutt is stepping into Danny Denzongpa shoes as originally he essayed the role of villain in the original, but apparently, Rishi Kapoor was earlier approached to play the role of Danny.

The film also stars Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra.  Though this is not the first time that Sanjay Dutt is playing villain character but it is first time when Sanjay Dutt will be part of Dharma Productions. A source says,

“Rishi Kapoor had even agreed to go bald for the role. Agneepath, is mainly about two characters Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (played by Hrithik) and the baddie, Kancha Cheena (the role Dutt now plays).”

Though Karan wanted to shave off his head for the role but Sanjay refused as he is also shooting for his other films simultaneously. So, now a special team of makeup artists from London will come down to India to give him a bald look. The source added,

“KJo is not talking about it right now as he plans to make a big announcement soon. Also he doesn’t want Rishi to know right now that he has been replaced as Kapoor is likely to go off on another tirade against him.”

The role of villain in the remake of Agneepath was specifically written for Rishi Kapoor as debutant director, Karan Malhotra is a big fan of the actor. But Rishi Kapoor was not very comfortable for the role. He was confused. The actor said,

“I’ve never really been comfortable in a grey role. I played an evil character in Bol Radha Bol and Khoj. Those roles didn’t work for me. But the villain’s role in Agneepath is a special challenge because I play Hrithik Roshan’s role-model in the remake. I am the guy Hrithik’s character wants to be like.”

Rishi confessed that it’s tough for him to refuse the role because

“Karan Malhotra’s father Ravi Malhotra did four films with me in the lead, all very successful. But will audiences accept me as a bad man?”

Agneepath (1990), directed by Mukul S Anand and produced by Yash Johar starred Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa.

The title was taken from a poem penned by Harivansh Rai Bachchan and is recited by the main character throughout the film.
