Priyanka Chopra in ‘Zanjeer’ remake!

Priyanka Chopra has been approached for a leading role in the modern remake of the 1973 movie Zanjeer which catapulted Amitabh Bachchan to fame.

The original film, directed and produced by Prakash Mehra, had Amitabh Bachchan playing a no-nonsense cop who takes on the might of an underworld don (played by Ajit), also the murderer of the cop’s parents. Jaya Bachchan played a street performer and the cop’s love interest.

Now, Prakash Mehra’s son Amit is tying up with Reliance Entertainment for the film’s modern remake. The team is in the process of finalizing the cast and we hear that Priyanka Chopra has been approached to play the role essayed by Jaya Bachchan in the movie.

However, instead of a street performer, Priyanka Chopra will play a feisty NRI cafe owner.

South star Ram Charan Teja has been roped in to play the cop in the film. He already has a grand fan following in the south, and it remains to be seen if his Bollywood debut will earn him the tag of the ‘angry young man’ that the 1973 movie won for Amitabh Bachchan.

There has also been reports lately that Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan too will play pivotal parts in the remake.

As for Priyanka Chopra, she has expressed her interest in the film, but hasn’t given her nod yet.

The film’s shoot will begin in April. Apoorva Lakhia (who directed Shootout At Lokhandwala) will direct the Zanjeer remake.
