My daughter takes me by surprise everyday: Lara

Model, actress, producer, wife, and now a mother; Lara Dutta is juggling many roles and is in a happy phase of her life. After getting married to ace tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi last year, Lara was seen in the maiden movie of their production company – ‘Chalo Dilli’. And now, eight months after giving birth to daughter Saira, Lara is back with a bang, ready to take on B-Town again.

Ask her about her new role in life and the proud mother in her says,

I am still enjoying the gift of becoming a mother. Currently I feel I need to spend as much time at home as possible and nurture my little one.

About Saira, she adds,

Everyday with my daughter is different. I have learnt a lot from her. Everyday she takes me by surprise.

While actresses in Bollywood are written off after marriage, the actress, who has made a quick comeback, disagrees that marriage or motherhood can be an obstruction in a career. She says,

Generations of actresses before me have broken the concept of sitting at home post marriage. Marriage and motherhood in this day and age have not stopped anyone and I have never considered them a hindrance.

So was there a gruelling workout session involved? She replies, “Post pregnancy weight doesn’t reduce overnight and it takes a dedicated routine to lose the weight put on. I watched what I ate and worked out 4-5 days in a week after the initial six months post Saira’s birth.”

The actress is now busy with the promotions of a renowned English soap. Lara’s next Bollywood flick is Bijoy Nambiar’s David. She says,

I enjoyed Bijoy’s first movie Shaitan and I liked the concept of that David is all about as an actor. The film is being shot in both Hindi and Tamil and I’m part of both the versions and find it quite a challenge.

While Lara refused to comment on anything about husband Bhupathi, the producer in her is happy with the first movie. She says, “Chalo Dilli was a BO success and provided us with a lot of credibility as producers. We are now in plans for seven home productions which will be going on the floor starting from next year.”
