Milan’s Once Upon A Time… Again in Controversy

Milan Luthria’s super hit film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai has been facing troubles from the releasing day. Even weeks after its release, troubles are not over. After the Haji Mastan’s family members, yesteryear actress, Rehana’s family has filed a case against producer, Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria.

Well the story is that, Kangana’s character in the movie looks Rehana’s character. The case has been filed at the Allahabad High Court. As the legal notice, the filmmaker has used the name Rehana without her consent and it has maligned her image. Incidentally, the actress is now 85 years old and is living in Pakistan, where she shifted after the Partition. A source said,

“In the film, Kangna Ranaut’s character Rehana is that of a 70’s actress. Co-incidentally, it is the same name that a Bollywood actress, now living in Pakistan,

She acted in Hindi cinema in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. She was regarded as Hindi cinema’s first jhatka queen and starred in about 30 movies including super hits like Sargam and Sagai.

She acted opposite all the top stars of that year which included Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Prem Nath among others.”

Rehana’s close relative Mohd Ali Mastana in India reported that filmmakers have used her name with their permission and maligned her image by associating the movie’ character with a smuggler.

When asked with Milan about the news, the filmmaker said,

“The matter is subjudice and therefore I won’t like to comment on it at this moment. All I can say is that we have our legal team in place, which is following the case, and I will speak once the court rules its decision. However there was nothing intended.”
