Manoj Kumar To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Manoj Kumar also known as Bharat Kumar will be honored with the lifetime achievement award at the 12th Mumbai Film Festival by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI). The director of MAMI, Narayanan announced this news and stated,

“We are conferring the award on Manoj Kumar. It will be presented to him at the festival award function on October 28. His contribution to Indian cinema is considerable. No Independence Day is complete without songs from his films.”

An elated Manoj Kumar says,

“I am glad to receive this award. It’s special because it’s from people who know their job and understand cinema.

There is no partiality in this. We have senior people like Yash Raj, Shyam Benegal and youngsters like Farhan Akhtar. It’s as important as an Oscar.”

Not too longer, veteran actress, Waheeda Rehman denied to take award saying that she is not worthy of it and Manoj Kumar is definitely a more worthy contender. The actress says,

“After Guide and Pyaasa I didn’t get roles, I didn’t do films, I was away. I am thankful to them for considering me. That itself is an award for me.”

“He is a great director, writer and actor. He has contributed to the industry a lot more than I have.”

Reacting to Waheeda Rehman’s statement about him being more worthy of the award, he adds,

“I salute her generosity but she is far more senior than me.”
