Lord Meghnad Desai Debuted to Bollywood!

London based renowned NRI economist, Lord Meghnad Desai is debuting into silver screen with a Sharmila Tagore-Soha Ali Khan starrer British film Life Goes On. Mr. Desai will do cameo presence, playing a friend of Girish Karnad and Om Puri.

The film’s UK-based director Sangeeta Datta also confirmed the news,

“Desai and Girish had studied at the college together. They even used to do drama together some 40-45 years ago. So when we approached him for the role, he readily agreed.”

Life Goes On is inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear as it tries to find a new ground for the Elizabethan period drama in a contemporary multicultural British context. The filmmaker said,

“The scene is about a debate among friends on communalism, partition and prejudice against Islam. He was very happy to do the balancing act and discuss how the Hindus were not the only ones who suffered. There were Muslims among the victims too.”

The 71-year-old economist, also a Labour politician, was recently in news after being dragged into a controversy linked to the PhD thesis of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s son.
