Kangana Ranaut Bags Deepa Mehta’s Next

Last week, Fillum reported you about Soha Ali Khan’s roping into Deepa Mehta’s dream project based on adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children. This week, one more Bollywood actress joined the crew of ranks of Freida Pinto, Aishwarya Rai, Soha Ali Khan by joining Deepa’s next flick. She is none other than Kangana Ranaut, as the actress has already making mark on International market.

Buzz is that Deepa Mehta was impressed by Kangana when she saw her in Anurag Basu’s Gangster. After seeing her in Gangster, Deepa wanted her for a character called Emerald.

Kangna has been chosen to play a character called Emerald. Once the actress will be playing emotional character, which is defined so precisely in the novel that it could be played by a specific kind of actress, and Kangana is best in playing such roles. Deepa said,

“There were second and third choices for other characters. For Emerald I only wanted Kangana.”

“Yes, Kangna has agreed to be part of Midnight’s Children. I think she’s a wonderful actress, not quite like anyone else that I’ve worked with.  Let’s hope Mr Rushdie doesn’t get too excited about this emerald.”

Next year, Kangana will be joining actresses like Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas and Nandita Das for the shooting of Deepa’s Midnight’s Children.
