Film on Phoolan Devi’s killer, Rana!

Do you know Sher Singh Rana? A person, who shot dacoit Phoolan Devi on July 200, will now be filmed on celluloid. Another interesting factor is that Rana, who himself in jail, has written the script. Producer, Jagjeet Singh Walia says,

“Rana has written the story for the film because he wanted to make people aware of the fact that he has not only avenged the slaughter of 22 people by the Bandit Queen, but has also gifted his community (upper caste of Kshatriya Rajput Thakurs) freedom and pride.”

Titled The End of Bandit Queen, the film will be made on a budget of Rs 50 crore. Walia continues,

“Bollywood actors have been approached for the movie and the director will choose actors according to the roles. Talks are on with Rituparna Sengupta and other names will be announced soon.”

When asked from producer whether jail people have supported him, the filmmaker says,

“Everyone in Tihar Jail right from the police to people who handle cells cooperated with us during our research. Even the courts helped us.”

The film will be shot in Afghanistan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Dubai and Bangladesh. Shooting for the Hindi and English language film is scheduled to start in September and it is slated for a 2012 release.
