Ekk Deewana Tha to have two endings

Twist in the Theater is that you might watch ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’ and come out telling the story to your friend who has watched it in other theater, but you both have different climax,

Yes thats true, the film Ekk Deewana Tha will be having two different ending in different theaters in town, one will be ‘And they lived happily ever after’ types, and other is a big secret for you to find out,

Director Shakun Batra wants to do something with this unusual love story of a boy and a girl, just like the different climax of ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’,

The time is changing, the directors are more experimental now, and the films they make are more of communicating to the audience,

Gautham Menon says,

The alternative ending is the ‘director’s cut’ and is only for selected audiences, the mass release is not the director’s cut. We have two versions of the film with two different endings. The director’s cut is like a limited-edition on DVD. It will be screened in just a few theatres in every city and it will be clearly publicised as the director’s cut wherever it is screened. It’s like picking the English version of Delhi [ Images ] Belly to watch.

Now Menon is hoping that the massy ending would click and prompt audiences to see the other ending, he says,

If the film turns out to be a hit, there might be repeat audience for the other version.

This experiment was tried decades ago by Raj Kapoor when he had shot two different endings for his teen romance ‘Bobby’, with one tragic and the other happy, while releasing, he went with the happy ending as the distributors preferred it.

Menon says,

The producers liked both the versions, the change is in only the last reel. My director’s cut is the ending that makes my film a coming-of-age love story. The ending for the mass release is a feel-good conventional ending.
