Bipasha Basu is gearing up for the red carpet at Cannes film festival. As per reports, the makers of her film Singularity are planning a special screening of the film at the fest, and Bipasha might sashay down the red carpet.
Directed by Roland Joffe, Singularity is her first Hollywood film for which she was paired opposite Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett. It is reportedly too early to say if her new film, Singularity, will be a part of the competition section at Cannes this year; however, director Joffe, along with producers Paul Breuls, Guy J. Louthan, Dale Bradley and Catherine Vandeleene, will arrange a screening for the film which would help to create hype in the European market.
Though there were rumours that the movie is hit by the pre-release financial woes, Bipasha Basu was quick to rebuff any such reports. The story of the film is set in pre-Independence era. Bipasha will be seen as Tulaja Naik, a Maratha warrior princess, who falls in love with a British officer. Director Roland Joffe has made this epic romance in $27 million. The movie also marks the Hollywood debut of actor Abhay Deol. Shot partly in India, the movie Singularity also stars Om Puri and Atul Kulkarni in crucial roles.
The movie also has an Aishwarya Rai connection to it. Director Roland Joffe wanted to make the film with Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and Brendan Fraser a few years ago. But for unknown reasons the movie was put on the back burner. Later when Roland Joffe thought of reviving the film, he opted for Bipasha and Hartnett.
This is not the first time for Bipasha Basu in Cannes. Earlier, too, she was at the film festival, along with her then beau John Abraham for her film Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, in the year 2007.
