Asin can’t do bold scenes like Vidya Balan

In the years that Asin has been in the film industry, she seems to have played it clean; there have been no catfights or controversies marring her career. Even now, the actor, who is gearing up for the release of her next Hindi project that has an ensemble cast, says that she has no qualms about sharing screen space with others.

I am a secure person and I don’t think working with other stars in a film will affect my career. I do not have any ego problems. Multi-starrers very rarely happen in the south, so when I get a chance up north, why not?” asks Asin adding, “I had fun working with Shazahn Padamsee and Jacqueline Fernandez. There is a perception that female actors do not get along well on the sets. But we became good friends and still are.

Does that mean Asin will do more multi-starrers?

That depends on the kind of projects that I get. I want my films to be a pleasant experience for audiences.

she says.

Rumour has it that the actor lost weight and had a makeover for her upcoming film.

Not at all! I did lose 4-5 kilos, but I am back to my normal weight now. The news was blown out of proportion.

explains Asin.

The actor is currently shooting for a film with Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan.

It’s too early to talk about the film. It is a typical Rohit Shetty comedy and is inspired by ‘Gol Maal’. We have changed the story line quite a bit.

Asin, who has gone slow on signing up for south Indian films since foraying into Bollywood (she has only done ‘Kaavalan’ in the interim), was recently quoted as saying that the south can wait for her. But isn’t it the southern film industry that has made her what she is today?

I never said that. I’ve done south Indian films and I am proud to be associated with them.

she retorts.

But why has she not signed any film in the south since ‘Kaavalan’? “I am looking for some good scripts to come my way,” is all that she will say on the subject.

Despite the fact that Asin is an A-list star in the south, she is yet to establish herself in Bollywood. Ask her about it and she says,

I don’t see myself as a star. And that question doesn’t arise in B-town because I am still a newcomer there. I started my career in the south and I am really content with the kind of work I have done in both the industries.

says Asin.

With actors like Kajal Aggarwal and Taapsee Pannu also making their entry into B-town, is there competition among the southern actors up north?

There are so many people who make their debut every day in B-town and there is no competition among a particular section of actors. Everybody is talented and all actors are trying to make their mark in the industry. No one is competing with each other.

she says.

As an actor who has managed to do some strong characters, and not just be the hero’s arm candy, would Asin be game for a film like ‘The Dirty Picture’?

I can never do a film like ‘The Dirty Picture’. I’m not comfortable doing bold roles like that.

says she.
