Agent Vinod banned in Pakistan

Saif Ali Khan’s suave spy act may not hit Pakistan’s screens as ” Agent Vinod”, in which the actor plays a RAW agent, has been banned by the country’s censor board.

Ammara Hikmat, CEO of Encylomedia PR and the film’s publicist in Pakistan, said

It came as a surprise. People across the border were looking forward to it. The reason for the ban, cited by the censor board, is that it portrays Pakistan in a negative light and might hurt the sentiments of the people of Pakistan. Since I haven’t seen the film, I won’t comment, but even the importers are not very pleased with the portrayal of Pakistan.

Sheikh Amjad Rasheed, chairman of Pak business group IMGC and the sub-distributor of “Agent Vinod”, said,

Entertainment should facilitate the peace process and not disrupt it. Now that India and Pakistan are extending cooperation and lowering trade barriers, such negative movies would only decelerate the peace process. We’ll not entertain any movies in the future which are anti-Islam or anti-Pakistani.
