Aamir Holds Special Screening Dhobi Ghat for Dhobis

Guess what, who have watched the first print of Kiran Rao’s directorial debut, Dhobi Ghat? Not B-Town biggies but they were dhobis who work at the dhobi ghat in Mumbai. Aamir Khan held a special screening of the film for Dhobis.

Around 55 dhobis, including the President and Vice President of Dhobi association watched the film at the Ketnav preview theatre. A source says,

“The dhobi association was very helpful during the shoot of the film. Pratik, who plays a dhobi in the film, was made to interact with dhobis to understand his character well.

During the shoot, some dhobis had requested Kiran to show them the film and Aamir fulfilled their wish. Aamir was present at the screening and he met each one of them and had lunch with them.”

Interestingly, this time, Aamir Khan also screened the film with no intervals, and also personally invited the owners and managers of various multiplex chains, who have now agreed to screen it without intervals. A source says,

“Aamir insisted that the narrative of Dhobi Ghat should not be interrupted.”

Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV, the co-producers of Dhobi Ghat also confirmed,

“Aamir spoke to all the multiplexes and they agreed to no interval.”
